unsustainability of motivation and increasing distractions
why motivation is a fickle thing & what to do about it.
well we all know what motivation is and yeah it is not something that you can depend on even if your life depended on it(partially true) and another thing about motivation is that it is high in times while we do things that are not "Productive" and lower than the freaking mariana trench when we are learning or doing something that we ought to do.
what can we do is something that i have adopted from the book tiny habits by bj fogg,ie : something called kickstarter habits - you do the smallest part of the behaviour not thinking about the end result of the habit and just doing the behaviour in its tiniest portion, this psychologically makes you feel stupid IK but when you,say want to floss and the kickstarter habit would be to just floss one tooth it would expand into flossing all your teeth.
this is because like duh flossing one tooth is stupid thats the rationalization of your brain which in itself is a boon if you ask me and we are taking advantage of this mechanism.
so next time you want to start a habit make it tiny like i said above and try to do the thing however tiny consistently.
Distractions and what to do about it.
distractions are named so because well that's what they do so well - distract.
so things you can do
- get a dumbphone - not advisable and would be un-minimalistic.
- get eink devices - good investment if you have money lying around.
- go analogue - doing things without technology eg;paper and pen.
- use specialized tech - mp3 for music,a gps handheld for gps.
these are just bandaids to the bigger problem that is tech capitalism
we should be vigilant in our tech use try to live intentional and deep lives.
